JUNIOR
HIGH WINTER
CONFERENCE
December
29 - 31, 2003
As a way to
include youth that aren't quite old enough to partake in the majority of
the EYC,
a few years ago the Diocese began holding a three-day winter conference
for 6-8 graders.
Held at the Chanco
on the James, the
participants engage in small group teambuilding, similar to that of the
Summer Jr. and Sr. High Conferences, and the EYC Retreats. This year's
conference will be held
December 29th, 30th, and 31st.

After the success of the Jr. High winter retreat, some talk was thrown around as to whether there was enough interest to hold a winter retreat for high school youth. There was a resounding response, and in 2003 the first Sr. High Holiday Hideaway weekend took place at the Chanco on the James. Those involved participants worked in small group teambuilding, much like October Weekend and Blackstone, but this time in the (sometimes) snow-covered woods of Chanco. Registration information should be posted in the fall of 2003, and next year's winter getaway will be held January 2-4.

Each year during February, Bishop
David Bane brings clergy and laypeople gather to discuss
the polity of the Diocese of Southern Virginia. Also each year EYC sends twenty-five
youth
(10th, 11th, and 12th graders) to the council to represent the
Episcopal Youth Community.

This six day event takes the spirit of October Weekend and Blackstone and puts them into the summer spirit of CHANCO. Located in Surry, VA (the same as October Weekend) this week focuses on small groups, large groups, and the great outdoors. The 2003 Sr. High Conference is taking registrations now, and can be download here or from www.chanco.org.

PRESENCE at
GENERAL CONVENTION
July
28 - August 4, 2003
Every three years, Presiding Bishop Frank Griswald brings every church, diocese, and province together for the General Convention - an international version of Annual Council. Fourteen youth from our diocese will help represent the EYC at General Convention. The 2003 Convention will be taking place in Minneapolis, MN from July 20 through August 8. Our youth delegation will arrive on July 30th and return on August 4th. For more information, check the ECUSA website.
